Artists Lorraine Whelan and James Hayes

James and Lorraine are an artist team who have lived and worked together since 1988. We have a wide variety of experience and expertise; we have both worked with groups within an art workshop context and look forward to the opportunity of doing so again.

We have both participated in the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation annual fundraisers the Big Egg Hunt Dublin 2013 (image) and the Incognito Exhibitions from 2017 to present.

Lorraine Whelan is a visual artist and writer based in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Republic of Ireland.

As a visual artist Lorraine works in a variety of media: painting & drawing, ceramics, bookbinding and printmaking. Recently she has combined media that she normally keeps separate, most notably in the creation of artist books.

As a writer of poetry, fiction, art criticism & commentary and memoir, Lorraine has published in journals in print and online. In addition to other social media, Lorraine writes the weekly blog, Culture, Craft & Cooking. In 2020, Lorraine founded Precariat Press as a venue for small, niche publications.

James Hayes is an established sculptor proficient in a wide range of traditional and new media skills, ranging from authentic Bronze Age metal casting to complex 3D computer modelling and image manipulation. He has been commissioned for site specific public, corporate & private sculpture regularly since 1995, and has exhibited extensively in Ireland and North America. James is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland since 1993 (formerly Sculptors' Society of Ireland). James has organised and run six "Umha Aois" experimental bronze casting symposia, and is an active participant on the "Umha Aois" projects since 1996. James trained in traditional visual arts and sculpture skills in Toronto, Canada, and has since extended his skills base with a Bachelor of Arts from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, and a Master of Science in Multimedia Skills from Trinity College, Dublin.
